I wasn't always this supportive of locals. I guess I was in the sense that I have always shopped local and gone to local events, but putting myself out there to offer my time and energy...? No.
About a year ago, something shifted in my heart. I wasn't looking to get out of things what I put into them. Not that I was ever that way, but actually serving? Giving my free time? Volunteering? Thinking of others who worked hard and needed the extra support became a focus for me. I just wanted to #give. My life improved because of it and I didn't even expect that.
I am not encouraging others to give because it will improve your life. That's just what happens naturally. I am, however, saying what do you have to lose? If you can shop anywhere, why not support your local business owner or artist instead? They appreciate it more than any chain will. They cherish the relationships between their customers and themselves. They also usually have much better food, products and services, unique in their craftsmanship, and they have heart. Local restaurants like Churchill's, Le Papagayo, La Paloma and Beach Break Cafe have been in business as long as they have for a reason. Community.
Please place your hard earned money where it benefits the local community. #shoplocal. It's never perfect and we will all go to Starbucks and Nordstroms from time to time--lol--for that favorite (fill in the blank.)
Let's just create some balance. Shall we? Our local businesses will thank us for it.

Owner, Lead Blogger
Hello, my name is Karen Vazquez. I have lived in Southern California for over thirty years. I realized about four years ago that it was time for me to give back to this wonderful community by supporting local SoCal businesses, performers, restaurants, spas, boutiques, fitness studios, farmers markets and more. My support shines through here by highlighting these fabulous local SoCal spots. You can also follow me on Instagram, Twitter, PInterest and LinkedIn. I will be featuring many local destinations in the area that have been my personal favorites for years and am currently recruiting guest bloggers to expand the voice of LoSoCal. I have had guest bloggers in the past, but aim to incorporate local SoCal bloggers on a regular basis as a fun, creative and collaborative way to connect with the community here. Essentially, LoSoCal is a community blog, and it is meant to be resource to locals in this area and visitors from around the world. Please like or follow LoSoCal on the social media business pages and tell your contacts about the blog. Thanks for stopping by...
